George started work in 1952 repairing washing machines. He owned his own shop which did this. His working day began at 8.30 p.m. He only took two weeks off a year. When he started work he gave some money to his mother. During the day he got to meet a lot of people and learnt how to repair a range of electrical equipment. The job could be dangerous. He used hand tools and he felt that there is more money in this business nowadays.
