Her first job was in 1938 working for Yeadons in Elgin. She had always been interested in books. In Yeadons all the new books had to read first. She enjoyed working there. The more you read the more you learnt. Started work each day at 8 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. She had to keep things tidy, dust and read new books to tell staff about. She enjoyed life in Morayshire. She picked blackberries and made jam with her parents. She also got a lot of trophies for dancing.
During the war she also worked on aircraft dashboards which was interesting and exciting.
