William Paterson’s work in South Africa with the army

William’s first job was the army in 1951 in South Africa. He was 18 years old when he started work. He chose to do this job because his granny sent him a puzzle with a guard on it. He started at 6am and finished at 8 or 9pm his breaks were at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. William said that he enjoyed his job because it was something that he had always wanted to do. All the training that he got was basic army training. He served in the army for 3 years. In his spare time he went to the pub, played cards and draughts.
