Jean Dawson Nicol’s first job in an Ironmonger’s Shop in Elgin

Her work consisted of maintaining the daily ledger and sending out accounts. Every day she had to total the till and take the money to the bank. She was paid 15 /- a week in 1943 working Monday to Friday with a half-day on Wednesday. She stayed there until 1949 when she joined the national service. Joan worked at RAF Fulmar (RAF Lossiemouth) first as a typist and then as a clerical officer leaving in 1968 to be with her husband, a farmer in Craigellachie.
