She started work at the age of 14 in 1944 at the Elgin Branch of Woolworths. She took the number 8 bus to work and felt sick every day with travel sickness. She enjoyed her work at Woolworths and had good fun. Part of her job was selling toiletries. She earned 15 /- a week. The shop closed its doors for the last time 29th December 2008.
