Working at Manchester House in Forres by Marie McLean

Marie went to work there because she needed to earn a wage. The shop sold wool, blouses and reels. She spent her days up a ladder singing and sometimes didn’t realise there were people there. She worked all week with a half day on Wednesday earning £1 per week in 1936 t the ge of 14.
